REGARDING Mrs Maureen Olszewska's remarks (Letters, June 22) about Blackburn Golf Course footpaths, there have only ever been two public footpaths from the north side of Revidge Road.
One is from Mollington Road through to the Arterial Road and up to Mellor; the other is from Revidge Road via the Tank, down to Cuckoo Hall Farm and on to Lammack Road.
Any other paths were the private ones used by the farmer at Spring Farm to go about his business. One of these terminated at the gate that was on Red Rake.
Regarding the paths being in use for 50 years, I used to walk to the Harrison Playing Fields at Lammack and the only path available was the one by the Tank.
As for fatalities, of course, there have not been any, but I am aware of two very serious accidents in which people have lost eyes in recent years at Blackburn Golf Course, resulting in large insurance pay-outs.
I suggest that those who wish to have access to the golf course only wish it for their own purposes - to walk their dogs and let them do their business on other people's land.
