HYNDBURN MP Greg Pope has revealed how government and opposition MPs deliberately delayed a vote in the Commons so soccer fans could watch the England v Argentina clash.
A vote on the Finance Bill was due at 10pm yesterday but once it became clear that extra time and penalties were on the cards, Helen Liddle - a Scot - and her opposite number Michael Fallon agreed to keep the business going until after the match was over.
Government Whip Mr Pope said: " English MPs of all sides wanted to see the match through to it's tragic conclusion."
