LOWER Darwen County Primary was the latest school to get involved in a project to develop a derelict area of land at Highercroft Woods, Blackburn, by the year 2000.
Pupils from the school helped Groundwork staff and members of Blackburn and Clitheroe Friends of the Earth do some planting at the site.
Lower Darwen was the sixth local school to help with the scheme - the others being Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Crosshills, St Bartholomew's, Roman Road Primary and St James, Lower Darwen.
The completed scheme will include wildflower patches, public art and recreational areas.
The winter programme has been funded by the Millennium Commission, Blackburn with Darwen Council and Esso with support from local schools, Ashgrove Nurseries and British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
