A DRUG death inquest was adjourned when two young women witnesses failed to attend.

Andrew Robinson, 21, was found dead in bed at his flat in Avon House, Marsden Square, Haslingden, on Thursday, June 18.

He died from a combination of Methadone, a heroin substitute, and tranquillisers.

A police investigation is being held into how Mr Robinson came to be in possession of the drugs that led to his death.

Jim Robinson, of Lincoln Street, Haslingden, said his son was a sheet metal worker but had not worked since being involved in two traffic accidents in which both his legs had been badly injured. He was in pain and was depressed.

But he said there was no way he would have taken his own life because he was looking forward to his brother's wedding on Saturday. Pathologist Dr Abul Al-Dawoud said cause of death was a drug overdose.

None of the drugs involved were themselves at a fatal level but the combination of Methadone and tranquillisers both worked on the nervous system and caused his death.

PC Christopher Giltrow-Shaw said he did not know why two witnesses had not attended.

Police inquiries were taking place into the source of supply of the drugs.

East Lancashire Coroner David Smith asked him to find out why they were not there and to arrange for their attendance when the hearing was resumed.

Mr Smith said it was necessary for the girls to attend. It was only fair they should be there to let the dead man's family know what had happened.
