FIRE chiefs have snuffed out a third of candle related blazes thanks to a recent crusade.
Following a sharp increase in this type of inferno, Greater Manchester Fire Service introduced an awareness campaign to tackle the problem.
County fire officer, George Almond, said: "It is pleasing that since the introduction of the campaign the number of candle-related fires has been reduced by 33pc. This is very encouraging, however, I would urge people to take extra care when using candles and follow the following simple rules."
Do not place candles where they can be knocked over
Always place candles on a fire proof base or holder
Keep candles away from flammable materials ie curtains and bedding
Always extinguish candles prior to leaving a room
Keep candles, matches and lighters out of children's reach.
