SO now we have our deputy mayor, Coun Walker, adding his voice in support of the outraged residents opposed to the relocation of Bolton Road Sports Club.
I should think so too. Who do they think they are at this sports club? Before we know it we will be surrounded by runners, cricketers, tennis players and footballers under the guise of people participating in healthy sports. We can't have that, can we?
I manage a local football team and over the past two decades I have seen pitch after pitch go under the digger. We are now in a position where the once proud Bury Amateur League is down to one division. And things will only get worse.
Bury Council are the greediest landlords among nine local authorities. I think I speak for all local sportsmen and women when I say that the council and the people of Bury have to decide whether they want outdoor sport to thrive in their town or whether they want to continue to strangle the life out of it.
Ironically, the children of the protesting residents of Ainsworth Chase will no doubt eventually benefit from the relocation of Bolton Road Sports Club to their neighbourhood.
