I AM writing in response to an article published last week about a family who intended to sue Leyland Society of Model Engineers at Worden Park (Train Accident Victim to Sue, Citizen June 25 1998).
What a cheek! Those enthusiasts do it out of the goodness of their hearts and their love of locomotives. The attraction is meant to be for children, but they let 'big children' on as well. No charge is made for the ride; boxes are there for donations, but they aren't well used.
Worden Park is the only park for miles around with free or relatively cheap entertainment, and the biggest attraction is the little trains. If these selfish people go ahead with their court action, it would either kill off the enthusiasm of the volunteers, or we would be charged for riding the train, to cover public liability insurance.
I hope to goodness their hearts rule rather than their greed, because just think of how many disappointed children there would be if there was no train.
