AFTER months of preparation and hard work, St Catherine's Hospice in Lostock Hall opened its new day care centre which will cater for up to 20 patients a day.
Councillors, MPs, representatives from local shops and new volunteers were all given tours around the building before it was officially opened by the hospice president Raymond Consiglio.
He said: "This day is special for everyone involved in the campaign and I'd like to thank them for their help."
Nearly 100 people were taken on a tour of the new £1.3 million centre where they were given a chance to see the new facilities and talk to the patients.
A special camera was set up in the new centre so all the patients could see view the unveiling of the plaque.
Appeals Manager John Nickson was delighted with the day. He said: "It's wonderful to see everyone's hard work and commitment be rewarded in this way."
John also praised the Citizen for their help over the last twelve months.
"We have really appreciated your help and I'd like to thank the Citizen and other organisations for promoting our campaign and helping us reach our target."
Although the new centre is open, John is now worried that people will think the fund-raising is completed.
He said: "We now need more help than ever. This year we have to raise one and a half million pounds for running costs - that represents nearly £3 a minute!"
If you want to help then call John on 324540.
