ST HELENS Striders Brian Middleton and Bob Jost made the journey down to Stoke-on-Trent to compete in the gruelling Potteries marathon, and both ran creditably.
Run over the full distance of 26 miles 385 yards on a very testing course in humid conditions, Brian came home ahead of Bob, the pair finishing in 3hrs 30mins and 3hrs 40mins respectively.
Meanwhile, four other members took part in the Tony Boyle 10km run at Kirkby. Dennis Wharton ran a good race finishing in 36min 54secs, while Tony Raffle, whose form is improving with every run, just held off Les Abbott with times of 39mins 54secs and 40min 03secs.
Louise Heely made a good impression on her course time by knocking off ten seconds from the previous year, clocking 44mins 41secs, with Clare Galvin competing in a good time of 48mins 57secs.
And John Elliot travelled to Manchester to run the local 10km race and came away with a time of 40mins.
