DALTON were the visitors to Rainford CC on Saturday and like many teams before them they found the Jubilee Recreation Ground no place to rekindle former glories.
Long-gone are the days when Dawber, Hornby and Jolley used to strike fear into the opposition and the current Dalton team were no match for the Rainford machine.
All out for 116, the visitors had no answer to the home pace trio of Finney (4/24), Schofield (3/25) and Calland (3/31).
And when the home side took to the crease it was that man Calland who capped a fine all-round performance by scoring a hard-hit 80. Mike Cook also contributed an unbeaten 22 as Rainford ran out easy eight-wicket winners, a victory which took them to the head of the Southport and District Premier B.
The Second XI travelled to Southport Trinity and produced their worst display of the season as they crashed to a seven-wicket defeat.
Only Pickavance and Rose put together worthwhile innings as Rainford, batting first, collapsed to 97 all out.
On Sunday the Second XI travelled to Haydock in defence of their Pochin Cup crown but this semi-final proved to be a one-sided affair.
Rainford managed only 116 all out with John Pickavance again the main contributor with a top-notch half-ton. That total proved well within Haydock's reach as they ran out easy five-wicket winners.
