CADET Adam Elliott has answered a call to arms, flying out this week to Canada for a trip of a lifetime.
Bury Grammar School pupil Adam, 15, is one of only 12 teenagers nationwide to be chosen by the army for the five-week military training exercise. The youngster has taken his place on a Cadet Leadership Adventure Course run by the Canadian Cadet Force.
A member of the Combined Cadet Force at the town's independent school, Adam was nominated to attend the course by Corps Commander Major Bob Rylance before taking part in an extensive selection process covering members of the CCF and the Army Cadet Forces from all over the UK.
Adam flew out to Vancouver on Wednesday and then headed north to the Whitehorse National Army Cadet Camp in the wilds of the Yukon Territory.
Adam will be able to develop his skills in canoeing, climbing and bridge building. There will also be opportunities to experience military subjects such as firearms handling, marksmanship, and field engineering.
Adam, of Church Meadow, Unsworth, said:"I am really excited. To get the chance to try out some of these activities in such a spectacular setting will be fantastic."
