LEIGH Academy is into the army game, forging links with the 1st Parachute Regiment at Aldershot.
Already the team has been down to play a match, which Leigh won, and the army squad is due at Hilton Park on the weekend of July 25/26.
Meanwhile, the Academy boosted morale at the club with a couple of good wins, beating Rochdale 38-16 with some silky skills from Simon Kendrick and hot pace from Radney Bowker. Terrific tries from Danny Halliwell, who grabbed a pair, Mark Burrows, Kendrick, Bowker, Dale Christy and centre Stuart Dickenson.
More thrills in a fine 26-16 win against Sheffield with great debuts from Chris Dootson, Craig Wingfield and Craig Fisher. Dootson, at 16, showed a maturity beyond his years and bagged a try double to crown a great show. Halliwell also grabbed two, including a superb effort from 90 metres and Dave Radley.
On Saturday (12.30) Leigh face Barrow at Hilton Park.
