ISEE that the so-called marching season is on us again in Ireland and must confess that I have difficulty in understanding exactly what they are all about.
My little knowledge of the history of William IV is that he was a man foisted on to the English throne as part of a package deal with his wife and it was anticipated that because of his life-style he would not last very long.
The only thing that I know for certain is that his contempt for the English people was only slightly less than his loathing of the Irish, so by parading his likeness, what exactly are the marchers saying?
The only other facts that history seems to agree on are that he was an incompetent general and a practising homosexual.
