THERE'S good news for Jackie Madsen Maloney, an American with local roots, who recently inquired if anyone could help with her family researches.

Jackie, from Connecticut, was seeking out any information about the Buckley sisters who had been brought up in Oxford Street, St Helens, during the 'twenties and 'thirties. And there's been some positive response.

The pair in question were her late mother (born Eileen Buckley in 1922) and her sister, Doris, with whom Jackie lost touch many years ago and who would now be in her seventies.

Jackie's plea came via Legh Vale School. Haydock, whom she had contacted in the hope that someone there could help. And since then two readers have chipped in with brief details.

Mrs A. Hill of Sandringham Drive, Sherdley Park, writes: "I lived close to the sisters when I was young - Eileen being about four years older than me.

"Their parents has a small grocery and sweet shop at 26 Oxford Street and both girls attended Windlehurst Primary School and then passed their scholarships to go to Cowley Grammar School.

"After leaving school, Eileen worked at the H & J Wilson dress shop at the corner of Church Street in the town centre. She was cashier and I remember her as being a lovely, well-mannered girl."

SADLY, there has been no word so far on Jackie's long-lost Aunt Doris. But I'm sure that she will greatly appreciate the family info provided above.
