CITIZEN readers may be interested in the following report. July's Morecambe Labour Party meeting voted to ask the council to introduce a bye-law banning drinking of alcohol in the resort's public places, especially the Promenade.
West End councillor Trevor Tattersall arguing for a ban said it was needed to improve and protect Morecambe's image as a family holiday resort.
He was strongly supported by other Labour members, including (Labour) councillors Elaine Bush of Harbour Ward and Torrisholme's Mark Blenkinship, who shared Cllr Tattersall's concern at the harm which drinking on the promenade could do to the tourist trade, which is vital for local employment and prosperity.
