PRESTON College this week installed a £60,000 close circuit television scheme to help students feel safer on campus.

The St Vincents Road college, in Fulwood, will reassure the 30,000 scholars who visit each year.

A college spokesman said: "After recent developments the main site in Fulwood is now 26-acres, so we thought it was very important to give people added safety."

He added that more female students, who were doing night courses last year, expressed a concern about being safe.

"The new CCTV cameras give students an eye watching over them at all times. They also provide a pleasant alternative to 40 security men walking around the site."

Five cameras have been installed inside while three more have been set up outside, monitoring the car parks, the sports pitch and the main entrance.
