LANCASTER's own independent brewers, Mitchells, have bought another 17 pubs across the region from rivals Thwaites'.
The Sun Dial in Bentham will be just one of the new pubs where beer drinkers will be able to sup unique Lancaster beers.
The purchase brings their estate up to a total of 94 pubs.
Commenting on the initiative Mitchell's managing director Dermot McCarthy said: "The new Mitchell's tenancies are the latest development in our company's acquisition strategy and they will further strengthen our presence in East Lancashire and Cumbria."
The move follows the acquisition of 27 Thwaites houses in March 1997 and was exclusively revealed in the Citizen several months ago.
