A PAIR of lucky shoes and some considerable skill helped Alwyn Owen battle his way to win the mens singles in the Fylde Borough Council bowling competition.
The week-long competition held at bowling clubs in Lytham and St Annes saw Alwyn Owen, of Ashton Gardens Bowling Club, win 21-12 against Richard Hoyles of Freckleton Bowling Club.
Alwyn had also won three league matches in the same week and attributes his success to the shoes he was wearing!
He said: "I normally wear flat shoes for bowling but all this week I have been playing in another pair.
"I am sure they have helped me win."
In the ladies' final, June Patmore of Poulton Bowling Club beat Charlotte Johnston of East End Bowling 21-11.
The prizes were presented by the Mayor of Fylde, Councillor Anne Smith OBE, who followed the finals which were held at Fairhaven's Marine Park Bowling Club.
