ONE of the North West's oldest companies has been sold for £3.25 million to Liverpool plc, Banner Chemicals.

Joseph Storey & Co Ltd, which has a £2.5 million turnover, will continue to operate from its premises in Lancaster. No job losses are expected among the 18-strong staff.

Founded in 1860 and incorporate in the early 1900s, the company now supplies fire retardant and smoke suppressing chemicals, as well as pigment dispersions to the plastics industry around the world.

"The considerable level of interest which was shown in this long established Lancashire company from companies in the chemical industry was particularly gratifying.

"In particular, the vendors were keen to secure the continuity of employment of the current workforce in the Lancaster area, and are very satisfied with the outcome," added Stephen Dunn.
