A 33-YEAR-OLD was terrified when he felt the end of a gun against his head and was screamed at by a robber as was leaving his car in Morecambe this week. The robber demanded that he give up his car, but he refused and eventually managed to knock the gun out his assailant's hand. The gaunt faced robber then ran back to his dirty white Ford Escort van and sped off. The victim made his way to Morecambe police station. Police then recovered the firearm from the scene of the crime on Clarendon Street which turned out to be an airgun.

A police spokesman appealed to the public for information about the attack which took place at about 9.45pm on Tuesday night.

He said: "Obviously this was a very frightening incident. Although the firearm was only an airgun it was still a dangerous weapon capable of causing serious injury.

"The man showed great presence of mind and bravery during the incident, but he was obviously in great distress when he came to us. The gun is being examined but now we are particularly keen to find out where this very distinctive van is.

"Anyone with any information at all should call DI Paul Mattinson on 01524 63333."

The van the robber escaped in was an 'A' reg and had an orange light on the top, suggesting it might have been some sort of maintenance vehicle. The attacker had an accomplice with him in the van.

He an Irish accent, was 19 or 20 years old, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall, slim build, had blond collar length hair, he was dirty and unkempt, with a gaunt face and stubble.
