CULCHETH Players picked up an "Oscar" and four nominations in the Cheshire Guild Awards recently.

Catherine Brentford collected the Best Supporting Actress Award playing Ouiser in "Steel Magnolias", and the show was nominated for four further prizes - Most Promising Young Performer (female) Natalie White as Selby; Best Director - Angela Holt; Best Overall Production and Best Poster (designed by Jim Jones).

Angela has appeared several times on stage with the Players, but "Steel Magnolias" was her first time as director.

Angela said: "These nominations mark another great success for Culcheth Players and represent recognition of the high standards and commitment of all those involved in the work of the group."

The presentation at the full length play festival in Frodsham followed adjudication by Jeff Brailsford, who watched 45 productions between September 1997 and June 1998.

Culcheth Players always welcome new members, both acting and non-acting, at their meetings in Culcheth Sports Club, Charnock Road, Culcheth, on Mondays at 8pm.
