A LOCAL school is thinking globally and acting locally through projects as far afield as Kenya and as close to home as Haslam Brow, Bury.
Pupils at Bury Church of England High School are busy raising money for conservation work in Tsavo East National Park as well as tree planting in the Greater Manchester Red Rose Forest.
Now the pupils have won a competition based on their international work, winning a "tree kit" sponsored by the Bury-based Alan Jons foundation and a cheque for £50.
The competition, titled Forests for our Future, is part of a national millennium campaign to celebrate the millennium.
And pupils will donate the £50 prize money to their waterhole scheme in Tsavo National Park, which helps young elephants and rhinos orphaned by poachers.
The Foundation provides grants for environmental projects in local schools and colleges. For more information contact Joyce Fowler on (0161) 761-3455.
