LEIGH Centurions are in the market for a new coach.

Norman Turley, in charge for just two months, is to voluntarily stand down as the Hilton Park outfit chase a full time coach or player/coach.

They hope to have the new man in charge before the end of the season. If that happens he will become Leigh's third coach since the season kicked off in February.

Turley stepped up from assistant to head coach when Keith Latham stood down in May but since then Leigh have tumbled to the bottom of Division One on the back of nine successive defeats.

Leigh are to advertise the post and are willing to consider applications from at home and abroad.

Hilton Park chairman Mick Higgins says there has been no pressure put on Turley despite the club failing to win any matches under his control.

"He's found that, like Keith before him, the demands of the job are great for someone working on a part-time basis.

"We feel that the club will benefit all round if we can get someone in full-time to work with the players and to get out into the town and pick up on the development work in schools and local clubs.

"When Norman came to the club he had no aspirations to be a head coach and was just happy to work in an assistant capacity.

"That's what he wants to return to do and we've promised him that will be the case when the new man comes in," adds Higgins.

One of those in the running for the vacancy could be New Zealander Stan Martin who this week resigned at fellow Division One side Whitehaven Warriors, ironically Leigh's opponents on Sunday.

Centurions' Tongan forward Tau Liku is named in the FASDA Merit Team of the Week after an outstanding display in Sunday's defeat at Rochdale.

Also in the side, comprising players from outside Super League, is Swinton's young second rower Andy Coley.

League leaders Hull KR provide three players: Keith Beauchamp, Wayne Parker and Mike Dixon.
