THIEVES stole a direction sign near council offices in Blackburn town centre just hours after it had been fitted.
The new sign had been erected on the Pilkington Street side of the council's Jubilee House complex.
Thieves smashed and stole the sign which had been put up to direct members of the public to the council building.
Council spokesman Suzanne Halliwell said: "The signs are put up to help the public and replacing them costs time and money.
"It can be of no use to anyone else and this is just a mindless act of vandalism for the sake of it."
The theft is the second in as many weeks with thieves having stolen a council flag bearing the Blackburn with Darwen logo from outside Darwen Town Hall recently.
