ANARCHIC Burnley band Chumbawamba have been nominated for this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

The group are up for the Best New Artist in a Video gong - despite the fact they have been together for 14 years.

It is just a year since their hit single Tubthumping took the charts by storm on both sides of the Atlantic and firmly established Chumbawamba as a force to be reckoned with.

The glittering MTV awards ceremony will take place at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on Thursday, September 10.

One of Chumbawamba's Burnley-born members, Danbert Nobacon - real name Nigel Hunter - hit the headlines at last year's Brit Awards ceremony when he soaked Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott with a bucket of ice.

Record company EMI has denied reports that the band are to release a greatest hits album so fans can hear some of their earlier music.

Other nominees in Chumbawamba's category are Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Fastball, Natalie Imbruglia and Mase.
