A NEW dad who got drunk after he split with his girlfriend, threatened to cut police officers' throats, a court heard.

Joseph Benjamin Jenkins, 19, squared up to an officer and one felt so threatened at the police station he used CS gas, Burnley magistrates were told.

Jenkins, of Glen Street, Colne, admitted threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour on June 24 and the bench adjourned the case until August 19 for a pre-sentence report.

Sarah Statham, prosecuting, told the court police were called to a disturbance on The Crescent, Colne, where the defendant was having trouble walking.

Jenkins said he would take officers down a back street and cut their throats and squared up to an officer, threatening to bite off his nose.

He continued to be abusive all the way to the police station.

Jenkins told the bench the CS gas was used when he was handcuffed. He said he didn't mention anything about cutting throats.

He added he had had five cans of lager after he split with his girlfriend who had just had a baby.

Jenkins said he had just been laid off from his job at John Cotton, Nelson.
