SABOTAGE was putting thousands of lives at risk on the North West's railway network, it was revealed.

British Rail police were called in to investigate claims that striking signal engineers had been tampering with equipment, prompting fears of a horrific accident.

Senior signal engineer Barry Ashmore sent a strong message to all staff warning that any interference by staff must be stopped.
