A SUMMER fun day lived up to its name as hundreds of residents of a Pendle estate enjoyed a bumper day of activities and amusements.

Residents of Hodge House estate, Nelson, flocked to Regent Street playing fields to enjoy a repeat of last year's pioneering event.

Pendle mayor Councillor Colin Waite opened proceedings and the entertainment lasted five hours yesterday.

Entry was free and there were children's rides, races, stalls, competitions, raffles and a bouncy castle to keep young and old amused.

Paul Denton, chairman of the residents' association, said: "The fun day was organised by local people for local people. It was a great opportunity for the community to get together for some fun and entertainment.

"We had an excellent turn-out despite the weather. There must have been between 200 and 300 people from all over the town and everyone was made very welcome."
