A QUICK flick through 10 news reports gave young readers enough information to be able to match them up with the missing headlines in record time.

The exercise in fast reading and working from literary clues was a Newspapers in Education challenge for youngsters taking part in a summer literary school.

NIE Co-ordinator Rita Shaw explained some of the tricks of headline writing to pupils at St Bede's RC High School, Blackburn - some of whom are pictured - and helped them to carry out the headline matching activity.

The school, along with four other centres, is also using our Story Search reading scheme to help improve reading skills before the start of next term.
