TWO world class blues performers set about showing just how varied the blues can be, writes MARK ASQUITH.

Former Burnley Blues Festival headliner Eugene "Hideaway" Bridges, often compared to the great BB King, got things off to a blistering start with his smooth, bluesy vocals and fluid guitar playing.

Then it was the turn of seasoned blues and roots genius Taj Mahal, whose former jamming partners include John Lee Hooker, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.

With four decades of playing under his belt, Taj's unique style incorporated Afro Caribbean, reggae and Latino sounds while maintaining a bluesy groove throughout.

Taj and his excellent horn section had the whole place dancing as the audience tuned into the Taj Mahal vibe.

With the Colne National Rhythm and Blues Festival only four weeks away, things are sure to get hotter as the August Bank Holiday approaches.
