OLD FOLK in Burnley have been warned about doorstep conmen after a spate of sneak-in burglaries.

In the latest incident involving two bogus council workers, £200 cash and an £800 gold and diamond ring were stolen from the Hurtley Street home of an 86-year-old woman.

One kept her talking at the door while the other went in and stole the property.

The incident happened at about 1pm yesterday and police want anyone with information to contact Burnley CID on 01282-425001.

A smartly dressed man in shirt and tie was involved in yesterday's offence. He is white, 5ft 10ins tall, with back fair hair, thin face and clean shaven. He wore a three-quarter length beige raincoat.

The other man was shorter and broader with light brown hair and stubble on his face.
