GOLBORNE slumped out of the Lancashire Knockout - beaten in a 'penalty shootout'!

Rain washed out their match against Egerton, who went on to win 2-1 in a 'throwing at the stumps' decider.

Tim Barry and Colin Crouch hit the target for Egerton, wicketkeeper John Drinkwater provided the home side with their only success.

Egerton were 122-5 with only eight overs left when play was halted. Ian McMillan had 2-21 for the Association champions with Mike Pennington 2-25.

The match was then reduced to a 30-over game from which Golborne were set to score 99 without losing more than six wickets.

They scored 18-0 off seven before they were forced off again. This time there was no way back.

RAIN also washed out Sunday's Trinity Cup showdown between the Bolton Association and Bolton League at Atherton.

The Association were struggling after losing five wickets with only 86 runs on the board off 36 overs.

But now they have the chance to start all over again when the match is replayed from scratch on September 19, again at Atherton.

GOLBORNE U13s lost to Daisy Hill, who hit 106-4, Daniel Robinson taking 1-4 and then hitting 25 in reply before having to retire. No other Golborne batsman hit double figures.
