ANDY MULLANEY smacked Leigh to a super six.

His blistering 71 off 65 balls earned Leigh a 32-run win against Liverpool - their sixth win in seven outings.

And they are striding away with a clear 23-point lead at the top of the Penketh Liverpool Competition.

Mullaney showed the kind of explosive form which over the years has made his glowing reputation.

His last 44 runs came from just 19 balls, including three monster sixes which threatened to rip down the Beech Walk dressing rooms - 12 months ahead of schedule.

Kane Kersnovske's 65 was much more sedate, but takes his tally for the season to 522.

Chris Hall chipped in with 34 in his new role as opener. And Leigh declared at 217-6.

Liverpool, who began the day in third spot, lost their first two wickets to Graham Duddle without a run on the board.

But they settled to reach a strong 143-4 before Hall returned for a 3-64 spell.

Duddle completed his spell with 5-39 to set up a tense finale.

With fielders surrounding the last batsman Kersnovske snapped up the crucial wicket with nine balls to spare.

Sweet revenge for last weekend's cup exit to Liverpool. And Leigh are now relishing the prospect of this weekend's derby clash with Wigan.

A BATTLING 60 from Glazebury opener Jon Gibbons failed to save the side as they fell by 66 runs to league leaders Widnes Recs.

The Recs posted a target of 184-7, scoring well after a slow start, eight bowlers failing to make a positive breakthrough.

Gibbons then found little support and the side were skittled out for 118 - just two overs short of forcing a draw.
