GENEROUS members at a Rossendale club have smashed their target and raised enough cash to buy a wheelchair for a six-year-old boy suffering from cerebral palsy.

A fund-raising event at the Trades Club, Haslingden, raised £777 to help Corey Scott, from Waterfoot, who needed about £1,400 for a high-tech lightweight wheelchair which will help improve his life.

Shopkeepers from throughout Rawtenstall and Haslingden donated raffle prizes for the bash, which starred singer Rita Ski and entertainer Foo Foo Lamar.

Club bosses Steve and Mary Youds topped up the proceeds to make it a round £1,000, smashing the Corey Scott Wheelchair Appeal fund's target. Other events to help Corey included a sponsored silence which raised £80 and a fancy dress pub crawl around Haslinden and Rawtenstall which raised £282.

Organiser Marlene Fell said: "I want to thank the other organisers and everyone who helped make it a success."
