GOING places....that's Leigh Rugby Union Club.

The go-ahead Hand Lane outfit, who field junior sides covering 7-17 age groups, colts and six senior sides plus a successful women's fifteen, are expanding.

Club chairman Mike Hampson welcomed news of a £5,000 grant towards a £39,000 scheme to transform Alf Bent's field into extra playing pitches.

"By the start of the 1999 season we should have excellent extra facilities for our junior and women's teams. We're very grateful for the donation," said Mike.

Club officials, ward councillors and local authority representatives are pictured with under 16s captain David Wood who received the cheque from Cllr Brian Jarvis on behalf of the Brighter Borough Initiative.

Local councillors nominated the club for a chunk of the Brighter Borough's £10,000 Hope Carr ward budget.

Cllr Jarvis said: "We're proud to be associated with this development. I can't praise the club enough - it's the best and biggest youth club in Leigh."PACL 805/28A
