CYCLES of all shapes and sizes will be winding their way through the streets of Lancaster and Morecambe this weekend as Cyclefest '98 rolls into town.

The bi-annual celebration of everything to do with pedal bikes is bigger than ever before and has attracted interest from around the world, including Canada, Israel, Germany and America.

One participant has travelled all the way from Cologne in a high-tech pedal cab to be at the festival and there's sure to be something of interest for everyone.

From unicycles to recumbent machines to cycles with four-wheels, there will be special 'fun' races at Salt Ayre cycle track on Saturday afternoon with a parade of vehicles outside Morecambe's Midland Hotel on Sunday morning.

A jazz band and cream teas will further the eccentric ambiance at St Martin's College on Sunday afternoon.

Organiser John Bradshaw said: "It's a festival of cycling alternatives which attracts a lot of unique individuals. It's a lot of fun and is well worth a look."
