SUTTON CC suffered a double defeat at the hands of Cheshire Lines in matches sponsored by the Sunlight Indian Takeaway.

However, they can take some consolation from a rich haul of bonus points.

The first team had first use of the New Street wicket and were dismissed for 153 in 47 overs, gaining maximum points.

Most batsmen reached double figures, but only Martin Harvey, who hit a fine 38, and Mike Rimmer, with 28, looked in control.

Lines, who are one of the competition's most positive sides, soon took up the run chase.

But hard-working spells by Kieron Barr (3-34) and Ian Greener pegged them back.

The throwing of Ian Burrows brought two run-outs and suddenly Lines were in deep trouble at 78-6.

But the visitors showed why they have won five in a row with a great recovery to clinch a four-wicket victory in the final over of a see-saw match.

The second eleven were involved in a carbon copy of the senior game.

Sutton made 155, thanks to a superb 49 by man-of-the-match Steven Wearden and a good supporting knock of 29 by John Bellamy.

Dave Fargher and John Lawton laid a solid foundation to allow Sutton to claim all the available batting points.

Lines made a good start, but Wearden turned his hand to a little leg spin and picked up five wickets.

A good spell by Mark Reynolds (2-32) gave Sutton some hope but the home side crept home with two wickets to spare.
