THE police have launched a manhunt for a knife-wielding maniac who attacked a Lancaster man and slashed his throat. The 21-year-old victim was cut from his left ear to his Adam's apple during the attack on Longland's Road on the Vale Estate. Police believe the attacker was lying in wait outside the victim's property before launching the vicious attack.

The injured man was taken to Lancaster Royal Infirmary where he received 40 stitches to his wounds during emergency surgery to his throat.

The police were called to the man's house in the early hours of Tuesday morning and, when they arrived at the scene, they found the man with serious injuries.

His was interviewed following surgery and has been detained in the RLI, where his condition is described as "comfortable."

A police spokesman said a search was now under way to track down the suspect who is thought to come from the Lancaster area.

The spokesman said: "We are appealing for witnesses to contact us in the strictest confidence."

A GANG of ten teenagers, both male and female, beat a man to the ground and kicked him in the face in Lancaster this week.

The attack follows two similar incidents the previous weekend by a large teenage gang, although police are not linking the crimes as yet. The violent gang, all aged 18 or younger, beat up a 23-year-old male without provocation on Station Road between 1am and 2am on Saturday.

The victim was left with a fractured nose and multiple abrasions to his body.
