LEYLAND beat their local neighbours Leyland Daf by seven wickets.

Leyland captain Mark Pallett won the toss and put Leyland Daf in on a wet wicket.

Daf lost their first two wickets with the score on 21 before Daf captain David Makinson was bowled by Steven Pallett for 14.

Leyland professional Neil Rimmer then had Neil Dasgupta caught in the gulley by Lee Heyes for two.

The fourth Daf wicket fell at 39 when Duncan Catterall was trapped lbw by Steven Pallett for 12.

Half the Daf side were dismissed for 42 when Alan Murray was caught behind by Chris Sim off Steven Pallett for four.

Alan Richardson and Charlie Williams then re-dressed the balance by adding 28 runs for the eighth wicket before the latter was bowled by Pallett for 12.

Richardson also departed at 74, caught by Neil Kenyon off Rimmer for a solid 22.

Daf were dismissed in the 37th over for 76, with Steven Pallett taking a career best of 7 for 28 from 18 consecutive overs.

Leyland made a disastrous reply, losing their first two wickets with only one run on the board.

Mark Rocca and Neil Rimmer then laid the foundation for Leyland's victory.

They added 44 runs for the third wicket before Rocca was lbw to Makinson for 23.

Mark Pallett joined Rimmer and the former hit a boundary off Steven John to put up the fifty.

Pallett, 22 not out, and Rimmer, 19, featured in an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 33 runs.

After the game Mark Pallett said: "Daf didn't bat as well as they can do.

"But after some poor results, I hope Leyland have turned the corner."

This Saturday Preston face an in-form Fleetwood while Leyland travel to Cumbria to play Kendal.

Leyland Daf are at home to current league champions Netherfield, so Daf will have to play to their highest potential to take the points.
