A DISC parking scheme will come into effect on short-stay car parks in Nelson from Saturday.
Drivers will be able to continue to park in the town centre car parks for free provided they display a disc which will cover them for between two and three hours parking.
Long stay car parks in the town will not be affected.
Colin Badminton, Pendle Council's traffic and transport engineer, said: "Initially car park attendants will be explaining the new system to anyone not displaying a disc and there will be no fines for the first month.
"Disc parking has been successfully introduced in other East Lancashire towns and now Nelson's shoppers and visitors can also enjoy easier availability of car parking spaces."
It is hoped that the disc system will encourage drivers using short stay car parks not to out-stay their welcome and free up spaces for shoppers and visitors as a way of boosting trade in the town.
Discs will be available from town centre shops, banks, the library, post office and town hall.
The car parks affected will be Goitside, Every Street, New Brown Street, Railway Street, Stanley Street, Broadway, Booth Street and levels 1, 2 and 3 on the multi-storey car park.
