CANINE beauty Ruby has won one of the highest accolades in the puppy show world.

The 11-month-old German Shepherd came first in the puppy section at the two-day "Joint National Show" held at Weston Park in Staffordshire.

Ruby's proud owners, former Hyndburn dog warden Joe Horsfield and his partner Lynne Hulme run the Glencoe Boarding Kennels and Cattery on Haslingden Old Road, Oswaldtwistle.

Joe said: "This is the biggest show in the UK for German Shepherds. It's exceptional to win first place and the highest award a puppy can win.

"This is the competition everyone wants to win."

Ruby was up against 32 other canines from throughout the United Kingdom and was judged the best by German judges.

The bitch was bred from a winning animal and has also scooped awards at dog championships and open shows held across the country.

Joe said: "Ruby has gone so far in her short career. We hope she will go on to scoop other high honours."
