ROTARIANS from Blackburn raised more than £30,000 over four years to pay for equipment to help water irrigation work in Tanzania.

The cash paid for a solar panelled power unit which will aid in the task of delivering water to villages in the east African state.

The Bethany Project charity which devotes itself to helping with such schemes in the third world will oversee the delivery of the equipment to Tanzania.

Heather Jeffery from the project officially received the equipment from George Papas, President of the Rotary Club of Blackburn.

Tim Hazard, the District Governor of Rotary International came down from Carlisle for the presentation.
