POLICE pulled the body of a woman out of a reservoir after being alerted by a passer-by.
Today they were trying to confirm that the body was that of Lisa Jordan, who disappeared more than four weeks ago.
The body of a woman in her mid-20s was found in Guide reservoir, Blackburn, at around 2pm yesterday.
Miss Jordan, 23, vanished after walking out of the psychiatric unit of nearby Queen's Park Hospital, Blackburn, on Saturday, December 5.
Last week, her parents, Tom and Mary Jordan, of Blackburn Road, Accrington, issued an emotional plea through the Lancashire Evening Telegraph begging their daughter to come home for Christmas.
Her description was sent to West Midlands police after Miss Jordan called a friend in Blackpool from a Birmingham phone box on Christmas Eve. Police continued their inquiries over the holidays but drew a blank, despite press appeals.
Yesterday, a passer-by dialled 999 after spotting something in Guide reservoir. Five members of an underwater search team recovered the body of a woman in her mid-twenties at 4.15pm.
Inspector Mike Simmons, of Lancashire Constabulary, said: "We got a call from a member of the public at about 2pm but it took a long time to get the underwater search team out. There was no question of this being a rescue operation."
The body has not yet been formally identified but is thought to be that of Miss Jordan. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
A post mortem examination was due to be carried out today to try and establish the cause of death.
