HOSPITAL wards faced closure as nurses were struck down with flu and stomach bugs, leaving hospitals with minimum staff.
At Blackburn's Royal Infirmary, 29 day-staff nurses were taken ill and numbers also rose across Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale at the health service's busiest time of year.
