A COUPLE plan to mark their 70th birthdays by riding tandem from Land's End to John o' Groats in a fund-raising trek for charity.
Frank and Kath Thompson, of Queensway, Waddington, hope to undertake the 1,030-mile trip in June to mark their birthdays in October.
The couple, who have travelled on their tandem around Spain and Italy, hope to cycle 70 miles a day over a two-weeks period.
They will camp at designated spots along the way and are crossing their fingers for good weather!
The keep fit enthusiasts are limbering up for the trek in aid of Cancer Research by cycling more than 40 miles a day and swimming three times a week.
And they have also tested the ground with a 142-mile Whitehaven to Sunderland trek and 60-mile Manchester to Blackpool trip. Kath said: "We are determined to do this. We are both fit and healthy. We are training hard by swimming and walking three times a week and cycling from 40 to 50 miles a day.
"Cycling from Land's End to John o' Groats is a great way to beat age!"
She thanked sponsors CSH Transport Ltd, of Great Harwood, who will transport the couple and their tandem to Land's End for the start of the journey, and Ken Varey's Outdoor World, Clitheroe, for supplying a sleeping bag.
If you would like to sponsor the couple, please contact them on 01200 422595.
