HAVING spent Christmas and New Year in Ward C6 at Queen's Park Hospital, Blackburn, I would like to thank all the staff from the bottom of my heart for their nursing skills, expertise, kindness and understanding when I was at my lowest ebb.

I could not have had better attention had I been a millionaire and not just a humble pensioner.

But the thing that touched me most was that on Christmas Day everyone on the ward was presented with a beautiful gift pack of toiletries from a famous High Street store, not by the NHS, the hospital or Government, but bought out of the pockets of the underpaid, wonderful staff who had collected the money among themselves.

Now, isn't that the true spirit of Christmas?
