Clarets boss Ternent signs Mellon

Ternent unveiled the 26-year-old before setting off for Bristol Rovers where Mellon will make his debut tomorrow.

The former Bristol City, West Brom and Blackpool player, who boasts one of the fiercest shots in the business, is the latest piece in the jigsaw as Ternent, backed by the cash of Barry Kilby, looks to build a side capable of challenging for promotion.

He follows hot on the heels of last week's capture of £750,000 defender Steve Davis and Stockport's Graham Branch.

And Mellon, who moved from Blackpool into the First Division with Tranmere for £285,000 in October 1997, can expect to launch his Burnley career in a left-sided central role at the Memorial Stadium.

His inclusion is likely to be the only change to the Burnley side as they go looking for their first win in six League games on the back of three games unbeaten.

However, the Clarets need to start converting draws into wins to make signifacant progress up the Second Division table.

Ternent said: "I thought we played well last week and I think we are on the right road but tomorrow will give us another indication of the direction we are going in.

"We will see if we can turn one point into three but not getting beat is very important."

The Clarets' 'A' team, which is likely to include Neil Moore as he continues his return from injury, are away to Wrexham tomorrow, while the under-18s entertain Tranmere.
