SUPERMARKET giants Sainsbury's confirmed today that their new Darwen store will open on March 31.
A recruitment drive for up to 150 team leaders and general store assistants was launched yesterday.
Sainsbury's community liaison manager Jackie Alderson said: "The building work for the store in on schedule. Darwen Job Centre has been receiving inquiries about the vacancies for months, and now that they are being advertised the telephone has not stopped ringing.
"Hundreds of people are interested in becoming part of the Sainsbury's team."
The Redearth Road store will have shelves stacked with more than 12,000 product lines and the store will feature a bakery, delicatessen counter and a full range of wines and spirits.
The project took several years to get off the ground and was finally given the green light late last year by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.
