A SCHEME to re-use and recycle computers and IT equipment is being backed by Lancashire County Council.

The aim is to benefit the environment by reducing landfill and at the same time to provide opportunities for unemployed people to train and get jobs.

The project has been developed with public and private sector partners and a seminar will be held on January 18 at County Hall to bring together other interested parties.

County Councillor Frank McKenna, deputy leader of Lancashire County Council, said: "With the explosion in the IT market there is enormous scope for recovering redundant equipment and to make the most of training and employment opportunities in Lancashire."

Companies and organisations wishing to discuss IT disposal can contact the Lancashire Centre of Environmental Excellence for Industry on 01772 889090.
