THERE is no doubt that Mr John Farrar (Letters, January 4) has been informed about the threat we pose to the Tory regime in Oswaldtwistle, especially now that Labour people there are aware that it was only through voters stopping at home last year that the Tories had a victory at all.

Come on, John - if we have a 40 per cent turn-out this next election your party will be obliterated.

You know very well that the past policies of your party were responsible for taking away local democracy. The shambles of rate and rent capping was the only reason that all the councils in the country found themselves without money to maintain schools, housing and the general upkeep of most essential services.

Regarding the money invested in the Globe Centre, Accrington, it was far more lucrative than Black Wednesday and we have not wasted £33 billion of oil revenue or keep people 'on the sick' to disguise the unemployment figures, nor have we left the senior citizens in the cold.

I have proof of the Tory opposition to the Globe project and the omissions in the reports do not go undetected when it is in print.

It takes time to put right the inadequacies of 18 years of gross negligence and indifference. There are still many people suffering from the housing boom that set false prices and caused long term suffering to those who took out insurance on their homes.

Try telling them that your party was looking after their pockets. Try telling the single parents and the sick about Peter Lilley's policies towards the disabled and the most vulnerable people in our society.

COUNCILLOR DAVE FORSHAW, James Street, Great Harwood.
